Prep 2, “A hammer is used to (hit - fix) nails into wood.” I believe that both are correct here. What do you think?

We usually use on or in with fix. When you hit a nail, you are moving it into the wood. By the way, we often use the verb drive or pound (= hit hard), though your students don’t have to know that. A hammer is used to drive nails into wood.

See fix and hit in LDOCE.
